Sunday Garden Centre Assistant

An independent garden centre is looking for a friendly, confident Sunday assistant. Stone Cross Garden Centre is a family run company which operates a retail garden centre and trade production Nurseries in Eastbourne. We are offering a fantastic opportunity to join our plant focused garden centre team.

A high standard of customer service is required at all times. We are looking for a friendly team player who can add to our business. Being able to learn quickly is an advantage. You may also be required to work in our busy café. The job will require assisting customers where necessary, loading of cars, assisting on deliveries, operating the till, lifting heavy items with assistance where necessary and helping out around the centre.

You will be required to be available every weekend. Availability during the week for occasional cover would be an added bonus. This is a varied job suited to an enthusiastic person keen to learn and work within our existing team with training provided were necessary.

Plant Nursery Production Supervisor

Saxon Plants – Eastbourne

Stone Cross Nurseries is a family run company which operates a garden centre (Stone Cross Garden Centre) and a production Nurseries (Saxon Plants) in Sussex and we are offering a fantastic opportunity to join our team at Saxon Plants located just outside of Eastbourne.

We specialise in growing a wide range of plants including Shrubs, Perennials, Roses, Seasonal Pack and Pot Bedding and lots more, all for the Garden Centre and the Landscape market in the South East of England, as well as for the onsite cash and carry.

This position requires an experienced, hard working and self-motivated person, who has excellent horticultural knowledge, especially in the production of hardy nursery stock, herbaceous and annual plants. A good level of communication skills will be important in this role to help lead the team working for you to achieve the required tasks.

Your main responsibilities will the overseeing and assisting in the production, propagation and potting up of plants. Also, the pruning, weeding and watering of plants as well as bed preparation and to ensure the site is maintained to a high standard. The ability to use and maintain potting machinery is essential, as well as be able to take cuttings.

For this role it is vital that you have a valid PA1 and PA6A spraying license. A forklift and first aid certificate will be an added bonus, but training can be provided. A good plant, pest and disease knowledge is required for this job. To help identify any issues and resolve these.

You will be required to work as an individual as well as a team, reporting to the nursery manager and will involve working a few hours on alternate weekend duties to ensure the nursery is maintained.

This is a varied role which will suit an eager person who is keen to take on a fresh start.

Experienced Horticulturist

Saxon Plants – Eastbourne

This post requires an experienced, hard-workingand self-motivated person. Plant knowledge is essential and should include Hardy Nursery Stock, Herbaceous and Annuals. You will be working as part of a team and on your own under the Unit supervisor’s instruction. You will be growing and preparing plants for Saxon Plants to sell in the Cash & Carry business as well as to our own retail outlet and external markets. You will need to have a PA1, PA6A spray certificate. You will also need to have a clean, full driving licence. Being able to drive a forklift would be desirable but not essential.

Duties and responsibilities include, and are not limited to, the following:

Monday to Friday8am to 4.30pm with alternate weekend duties (no set hours, view site am & pm adjust boiler vents and screens with some spot watering as required)
